PRO T.I.P.S! #1 featuring Gabby Schulz

OK! This is both nerve-wracking and exciting. Welcome to “PRO-T.I.P.S!”, a special new Ink Panthers Show “feature”, if you will. These are going to be occasional episodes where we bring guests to sit down with one of us to actually chat about comics… and also their work processes, and their lives, and approaches to their art, and whatnot. At least, that’s the idea. We’ll see how it goes…
First up on the Panther Couch is Gabby Schulz, who regular listeners may know was recently in The Lair to tell us all about Freeganism and his noisy radiator. This time he comes on to talk about his work, his politics, and his certainty that we are all indeed doomed. Comments welcome!

No commentsThe Ink Panthers Show! #77 Hairy Walking Sticks

The hiatus is cut short, so the Panthers can creep back into The Lair and fill you in on all the goings-ons. Alex has been working hard at becoming true hikikomori, driving Mike and Tony into fits of jealousy. Then the discussion turns to matters of body grooming. Did you know Tony shaves his nose hairs with a box cutter?? True story. Comments welcome!

Ken Dahl, a.ka. Gabby Schulz, a.k.a Unknown Identity joins us in the lair for a discussion about radical Freeganism, and other hot-button topics. Monsters was one of the best books of 2009, and everyone is encouraged to go pick it up. Gabby’s other books? Not so much. Comments welcome!
Also, program note: The Ink Panthers Show! will be on a short hiatus for the next three weeks. We’ll return to the Lair in the second week of February.

No commentsSecret Acres to publish Troop 142

The news that my book, Troop 142, is going to be published this Fall through Secret Acres, has finally been announced.
I’m so psyched about this. I met the Secret Acres publishers over the course of the past year, as they were distributing the Troop 142 minicomics on their site, and we really hit it off.
I love what they did with the cover, even though this image is technically still not the final image. I’m thrilled at the way they were able to capture the look and feel of an old Boy Scout handbook with the coloring and the fonts. It’s so great!
This version was put together for the purposes of starting to get the word out, and was created by using drawings from inside the book. I’ve yet to start working on the final illustration, but I’ve got some good ideas percolating. It’ll probably be one of the things I tackle next.
There’s still a lot of work to be done between now and September, including revising/editing/expanding the story from what’s been posted online. I don’t intend to change any of the pages on the website, they’ll stay as they are, so the print version will be different from the webcomic. Some scenes might get cut, and new ones will definitely be added. I am definitely going to be busy, busy, busy.
But for now, Hooray! I, for one, couldn’t be more excited for SPX 2011.
