Four new Troop 142 pages posted. I love the word “wuss”. Is it regional to the New York area, or is it widely used? I used it around my Scottish Uncle once, and always thought it was amusing how he pronounced it (woose, like “Moose”) with his thick accent.

In other news, Troop 142 #4 got a mixed-to-good write-up over at The Comics Reporter. Obviously I wish the review had been 100% totally positive, as Tom Spurgeon is one of my favorite writers about comics, but I’m still psyched to get to read his response to the book. And, he’s not wrong about some of the criticisms he made, especially that scene where the Dad’s discuss Scouts and atheism. It felt clumsy when I wrote it, and I’m not sure I’ve ever felt totally confident about it.

Having wobbly scenes like this go out into the world is one of the big downsides to my approach to writing combined with how I’m releasing the pages (online and in print) as I finish them. I’m certainly look forward to the day I start editing/revising this thing as a whole.

Feeding Ground cartoonist Michael Lapinski creeps into the lair this week to talk Pixar films and militant veganism. Nobody on the show is actually vegan, but everytime Mike (Gags) talks about being a “pescatarian”, you kind of want to hit him in the face. Comments Welcome!

Two new Troop 142 pages have been posted. What had Tony discovered when he went inside his bag looking for his second hit? How does Danny feel about it? Let’s see!

And, I’m back. Had a really, really nice week away at the shore up in Cape Cod. Things were more fun for the baby this year, as she’s more mobile and can run and play and go in the water by herself, etc. Last year was more challenging, because most trips to the beach were spent trying to stop her from eating the sand. We rode our bikes, ate way too much fried seafood, and all had naps in the afternoon.

I accomplished pretty-much nothing the whole week in terms of comics. I didn’t even bother going through the motions of packing a sketchbook, because I know from past experience that nothing gets drawn in them while I’m away (the same thing goes for my jogging shoes – why even bother bringing them? They aren’t getting run in). I’d like it if I could sketch, but for some reason I can’t, so better to accept my shortcomings.

I think maybe it’s for the best actually. During the rest of the year I basically think about comics around the clock. It’s nice to just take a week away from it, and not feel like I should be getting a panel inked while the baby sleeps in the afternoon. Much nicer to watch some of the World Cup, read a book, talk with some friends, and fall asleep on the couch.

I did give the first four issues of my Troop 142 minicomics a bit of a re-read, and had a few thoughts about revisions/additions/changes, so that was a little something at least.

OK, I lied, two more Troop 142 pages posted before I go on vacation. Now I’m done posting for a week, For Reals!

Three new Troop 142 pages added to the site. Tony and Danny are away for the night fulfilling a requirement for their Wilderness Survival merit badges.

I’m away next week, going to the shore with my wife and daughter, so there won’t be any new updates for a little bit. I hope everyone has a great 4th of July weekend!!
