Ace-Face in the hand…

I think one of my favorite things about being a cartoonist is the day that the final printed comic shows up. Whether it’s published by Quebecor or xeroxed at Kinkos, I enjoy it either way. So, I was psyched last night to get home and see a copy of my new book Ace-Face: The Mod With the Metal Arms waiting for me.

Ace-Face cover

This ought to be in finer comics shops next week, and I believe is probably available on amazon.com right now.

InkStudded!

Inkstuds Dawson

Robin McConnell interviewed me this past week for his excellent comics-related radio show, Inkstuds. We talk about my books Ace-Face and Freddie & Me, as well as my ongoing webcomic, Jack & Max Escape From the End of Time, among other things.

Unfortunately the last minute and a half of our chat got scrambled, so had to be cut from the online audio. This results in the conversation ending kind of abruptly, just as I started on some weird rant about my disgust at my former college-age self for being such Politically Correct drip instead of going out and partying for four years. Maybe it’s for the best that the majority of this screed has been lost to the ages…

The Complete Gabagool!

the complete Gabagool!

Between 2002 and 2004 I self-published a humor comic called GABAGOOL! with a co-writer, humorist Chris Radtke. We put out six issues of the series, as well as a few short things that appeared in anthologies. Gabagool! concerned the adventures of Christopher Vigliotti and his friends, a group of twenty-somethings living in Bronx USA. There’s actually a very detailed Wikipedia page describing the main characters and the series.

Because this was a self-published effort, it has for the most part been out-of-print. The only way people can usually get hold of the comics is directly from me at small-press conventions, of which I am attending less and less these days. So, I’ve decided it’s time that all of these comics should be made available online.

I’ve posted the first issue of the series so far, and will be adding new pages every Monday and Wednesday. I imagine everything will be up in a month or two, including all the really filthy stuff where Christopher and his friends take a vacation to the notorious swingers resort “Hedonism” in issues 4, 5, and 6.

Jack & Max: Week 8

Jack & Max Escape From the End of Time

Things keep moving along with two new pages posted here.

To read from the very beginning, click here.

Apologies for the small update, but last week was killer, with Passover, Easter, and an unfortunate bout of food poisoning (I do not recommend the “Potage” soup from the Red Hook Fairway!).

In more pleasant news, I was happy to see this morning the first review (brief as it is) of Ace-Face, over on the Inkstuds blog. As mentioned in the review, Robin will be interviewing me later today, though the audio won’t be going online for a few weeks. Rest assured, I will link to that audio once it goes live.

iFanboy review

Freddie & Me reviewed as Book of the Month at iFanboy.com.

It’s a great review, and I’m psyched they spotlighted it. I can’t help but assume the worst though, at the beginning where he mentions seeing the book on the shelves, noting in his “to check out one day” mental filing cabinet, and then a year later picking it up. Was it the same copy that he saw both times?

Jack & Max: Week 7

The story continues with three new pages posted here.

Also, speaking of Jack & Max, there’s a 12 page full-color story featuring the battling brothers in the new POPGUN anthology from Image comics, shipping to stores this week. I got my comp copy in the mail yesterday, and it looks great. I urge everyone to check it out!

Cow Tippin’ Laffs

I made this “game” back around the time of the new Millennium, when I was first learning how to use Flash. I came across it this weekend, and thought it would be fun to post. I recall it used to be probably the most popular thing on mikedawsoncomics.com, circa 1999.

A Fanboy Radio “indie” themed podcast that was recorded live last week has been posted online. I’m the last caller to call in at the end of the show.
